2003 Australian Mathematical Society Awards
A number of awards were presented at the 2003 Annual Meeting of the Society,
which was held as an embedded meeting within ICIAM 2003 in Sydney in
July.
The Australian Mathematical Society Medal
The 2003 Australian Mathematical Society Medal was shared by Dr Ben
Andrews (below right) and Dr Andrew Hassell, both from ANU.
The George Szekeres Medal
The innaugural George Szekeres Medals were awarded in 2002 to Professor
Ian Sloan (UNSW) and Professor Alf van der Poorten (Macquarie). As
neither recipient was able to attend the 2002 meeting, the medals were
presented by Professor George Szekeres at the 2003 meeting.

The B.H. Neumann Prize
This prize is awarded for the most outstanding talk presented by a
student at the Annual Meeting of the Australian Mathematical Society.
This year the prize was shared by Mr Ben Burton (Melbourne University)
(left below)
and Mr William Hart (Macquarie University).
