National Science Week GrantsBelow is a call for proposals for National Science Week Grants. As you will see, there is awareness of the fact that 2000 is the International Year of Mathematics, and it may be expected that mathematics proposals would be more likely than usual to get support.

Call for ProposalsNATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK 2000 PROJECT GRANTSCommonwealth funding is available, on a competitive basis from the Science and Technology Awareness Program, to provide support for projects to be held in National Science Week 2000.The aim of National Science Week is to focus public attention on the role in the community of science, engineering and technology through public events and extensive debate of scientific issues. National Science Week recognises the importance of science, engineering and technology to Australia's future and celebrates the achievements of Australians working in these fields. Up to $225,000 is available for national distribution. The maximum available per project is $15,000 but preference will be given to smaller projects. There is no minimum amount on offer. Individuals or groups wishing to submit an application seeking financial support from the Science and Technology Awareness Program should request an information package from the contact numbers below. The activity must be held during or in close proximity to National Science Week 2000 which will be held from 3 to 10 May 2000. Applications must meet the selection criteria stated in the information package and must be submitted on the National Science Week 2000 Grant Application Form. Funding is available for National Science Week 2000 grants only. There is no theme for National Science Week 2000. The schools theme, however, for National Science Week 2000 is sport, and 2000 will also be the International Year of Mathematics. Applicants may wish to feature these areas as appropriate. It is expected that successful projects will be announced by mid-December 1999. CLOSING DATE for receipt of completed applications is Friday 12 November at Close of Business.
